Facing this severe situation, the Jamaican government has announced that it will invest billions of dollars to launch a crop recovery and establishment plan, aiming to revive the production of Blue Mountain and High Mountain coffee varieties within five years, benefiting more than 5,000 coffee growers. JDE Peet’s Partners with Enveritas to Launch Global Deforestation-Free Coffee Program Covering Four Major Coffee-Producing Countries
The EU introduced the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) in June this year, strictly prohibiting the sale of commodities linked to deforestation in the EU market, with coffee explicitly included. The regulation requires operators to conduct due diligence on the origin of goods to prove they are not associated with deforestation or forest degradation, or they will face fines or even export bans. The regulation will take effect from the end of 2024 to early 2025, and countries and coffee companies are actively responding. Global coffee giant JDE Peet's recently announced that it has signed memorandums of cooperation on deforestation-free coffee with coffee-producing countries such as Vietnam, Ethiopia, Papua New Guinea, Tanzania, and Uganda, and is using Enveritas' satellite imagery, AI, and on-the-ground verification technology to ensure that coffee does not come from deforested land while protecting the interests of smallholder farmers. This move is highly consistent with the new EU rules and also provides a reference for a sustainable supply chain for brands of interest to coffee enthusiasts, such as Front Street Coffee. [more…]

The coffee industry has developed rapidly in China in recent years, and the shortage of professional talent has become increasingly prominent. In 2024, Yunnan Agricultural University was approved to establish the country's first undergraduate program in Coffee Science and Engineering, and the first cohort of students officially enrolled in September. The launch of this program not only responds to the market's demand for talent across the entire coffee industry chain, but also marks a new stage in which coffee education in China is becoming systematized and professionally academic. From identifying coffee tree species in the field, to green bean grading, roasting parameter setting, and then to cupping and pour-over practice, the students' first lesson at the start of the semester is a content-rich introductory course on coffee. NIO Power Swap Stations Launch Freshly Ground Coffee Service: Robotic Arms Deliver Drinks to Car Windows, Shanghai Pilot Sparks Heated Discussion Among Owners
As early as 2022, the new energy vehicle brand NIO created its own coffee brand to offer exclusive beverages to customers visiting its stores. Recently, some owners have discovered that this coffee service has expanded from the stores to battery swap stations, where fully automatic coffee machines have been installed and are in the testing phase. After users place orders via a mobile mini-program, the coffee is precisely delivered by a robotic arm to the driver's window, while bottled drinks are handed over by staff. Currently, only the Minxin Tea City battery swap station in Shanghai is running a trial of "charging coffee," and the brand says it will adjust the equipment based on feedback and may expand it nationwide in the future. This cross-industry service has drawn praise from car owners and also sparked discussions about safety and scenario expansion. [more…]
Shanghai takes the lead in launching a beverage nutrition grading pilot, with brands such as Chagee and Nayuki already displaying A to D labels.
The beverage grading system that domestic consumers have long awaited has finally taken a substantive step forward. The Shanghai Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention recently announced the launch of a pilot "nutritional choice" grading label for beverages, classifying freshly made drinks and packaged beverages into four health levels: A, B, C, and D. Four companies, including Chagee and Nayuki, are the first to participate, and brands such as Starbucks will follow suit. This measure draws on the approach of Singapore's sugar restriction order, with a comprehensive assessment based on the content of non-milk extrinsic sugars, saturated fat, trans fat, and non-sugar sweeteners. Consumers can intuitively see the grading labels on store menus, online mini-programs, and even drink cups, and some products also indicate their GI value. Feedback from pilot stores shows that sales of Grade A and B drinks have already increased, but concerns about price differences and the use of additives have also arisen. [more…]
Luckin Coffee partners with Mengniu Milk Deluxe to launch a limited-edition latte, introducing a slush machine to froth milk, sparking widespread discussion
Luckin Coffee has partnered with Mengniu's Deluxe milk brand to launch a limited-edition new drink, "Deluxe Exclusive Pasture Latte," priced from 14.9 yuan, or 17.9 yuan for an upsized cup, making it the most expensive item on the mini-program menu. The preparation method for this latte is quite distinctive: for the iced version, the espresso must first be stirred with Deluxe milk for 8 rounds, then poured into a smoothie blender and frothed for over ten seconds, and finally sealed in a cup with ice; for the hot version, the espresso is added to a milk pitcher, mixed with milk, and heated. However, feedback from the first batch of consumers indicates that the finished product does not have a dense layer of milk foam on the surface, and the taste is not much different from an ordinary latte. Staff explained that the milk foam dissipates very easily and recommended drinking it immediately at the bar. Front Street Coffee has noticed that this innovative process has sparked online discussions about "ritual" versus practicality. [more…]

This article sorts through the rise and fall of Odyssey NFT and follows Starbucks' subsequent moves in digital innovation. [more…]
After Manner's ceramic mug merchandise was promoted, it was slow to launch, leaving fans waiting empty-handed after staying up several nights.
Manner previously announced a giveaway cup event on Xiaohongshu, and the light purple ceramic cup in the accompanying images quickly captured the hearts of many cup enthusiasts. As usual, new merchandise would land on various platforms within a day or two after the official poster was released, and many fans even checked with stores in advance about stock availability, gearing up for the rush. However, this event has yet to appear, with some people setting alarms for several nights in a row only to come up empty-handed, while store employees also said they had not yet received notice. Is it the weather that has delayed the nationwide launch, or has there been a problem with the brand's communication? This article will reconstruct the course of events and explore the communication shortcomings exposed by Manner during the event delay controversy. [more…]
WCR launches global robusta breeding network; Uganda trial planting of disease-resistant varieties has delivered nearly 50,000 seedlings
Robusta's share of global coffee production has climbed from 25% in the early 1990s to 40%, with market demand continuing to rise, yet breeding and improvement efforts have long lagged behind. WCR predicts that if consumption growth overlaps with the climate crisis, the global coffee supply could face severe shortages in 2024. To address this, WCR is about to launch a Robusta breeding program using a large amount of genetic material provided by CIRAD, and will work with major producing countries to build a global breeding network. Meanwhile, planting trials in Uganda have already been implemented, distributing nearly 50,000 disease-resistant Robusta (KR) trees to farmers. Front Street Coffee continues to monitor the industry trends and variety innovations in Robusta. [more…]
Manner's stainless steel straw cup adds a silver version, and within less than half a day of launch, it faced collective complaints about the lid's paint peeling off.
Manner has long been known for its "bring your own cup and get 5 yuan off" policy and for frequently giving away stylish cups. The stainless steel straw cup launched last November sparked controversy because it could only be obtained by purchasing a 75-yuan set meal. After more than half a year, the official announcement on the last day of August revealed an additional silver model, officially launching on September 2, with stock increased to 60,000, and the threshold relaxed to receiving one free with the purchase of two iced coffees through delivery channels. The high aesthetic appeal and low barrier made cup collectors eager, with many people preemptively monitoring mini-programs or delivery platforms for price changes, ready to order promptly and wait for delivery. However, less than 12 hours after the campaign launched, complaints began appearing on social media: after rinsing the new cup with clean water, paint peeled off the outer side of the lid, as if the silver coating had been scratched, instantly blemishing the originally striking new cup. Some netizens checked the packaging information and found that the cup body and straw are made of metal, while the lid is PP polypropylene plastic with an outer coating, which easily peels off when exposed to water or light scraping. Good Me's Collab with Honkai: Star Rail: Merch Shortage Storm—Million-Deep Queues, Stores Sold Out in Seconds, and the Restock Dilemma
The collaboration between Goodme and Honkai: Star Rail was supposed to be a fan frenzy, but it turned into a reputational crisis due to severe merchandise shortages. On the first day of the event, the official mini-program queue exceeded 1.2 million people, stores in many locations sold out within 3 hours, and high-priced complete merchandise sets appeared on second-hand platforms. Although the brand claimed to have prepared "the largest inventory in history," compared with the previous Love and Deepspace collaboration, whose stock was only one-third of this amount, it clearly underestimated players' purchasing power. What dissatisfied fans even more was that many stores explicitly stated they would not restock, causing the collaboration to end early. This imbalance between traffic and reputation sounded a warning for co-branded marketing in the coffee and tea beverage industry. [more…]

Analysis of Yunnan Coffee Estate Volunteer Recruitment and Coffee Tree Adoption Activities: Tourism Routes, Planting Experience, and Value of Participation
Yunnan's coffee industry has attracted considerable attention in recent years. Local tourism authorities have launched six travel routes covering seven major coffee production bases, including Baoshan, Pu'er, and Dali, aiming to promote high-quality development of coffee-themed tourism. Meanwhile, many coffee estate owners have seized the opportunity to launch volunteer recruitment and coffee tree adoption programs, attracting young people to participate deeply in coffee cultivation and production. Volunteers receive no wages but are provided with living subsidies and accommodation; adoption requires donations to designated charitable organizations, and some estates give the harvest to adopters. These activities not only alleviate labor shortages during the harvest season but also help consumers better understand Yunnan coffee. This article provides a detailed analysis of the formats, significance, and participatory value of these activities, while retaining the brand recommendation of Front Street Coffee. [more…]
Luckin Employees Leak New Black Tea Latte in Advance, Short-Extraction Espresso Base Sparks Heated Debate and Discontent Among Consumers Again
A Luckin Coffee internal employee recently leaked on social media a new product expected to launch on November 24 called "Crazy Black Tea Latte." A video showing its preparation reveals that the drink still uses a short-extraction espresso as its coffee base, and the news quickly sparked heated discussion online. Many consumers expressed strong dissatisfaction with the short-extraction espresso, arguing that its coffee liquid volume is only about 20 milliliters and that once tea or fruit is added, the coffee flavor is severely masked, leaving the taste as bland as water. Although some customers tried to request a switch to Italian-style ristretto via order notes, they were often refused by stores. The controversy surrounding Luckin Coffee's choice of coffee base continues to intensify. [more…]
Manner and Helena Rubinstein Co-Branding Event Sparks Heated Discussion: Why Does the Crossover Collaboration Get More Criticism Than Praise?
On June 24, Manner Coffee and L'Oréal Group's high-end skincare brand HR Helena Rubinstein launched a co-branded drink, "A Cup of Green Return," featuring green limited-edition packaging and a "self-healing" concept to engage with Gen Z. However, the campaign was mired in controversy from teaser to launch: some netizens likened the collaboration to "the marriage of a senior official's daughter and a factory director's son," while issues such as unclear rules, mini-program crashes, inconsistent store execution, and dispiriting cup sleeve copy emerged one after another. Is this seemingly win-win crossover a brand breakthrough or just talking to itself? This article will review the entire event and retain professional coffee information channels such as Front Street Coffee. [more…]
Lisa's photo sparks hype for Heytea's matcha series, but global buy-one-get-one-free promotion stirs controversy over ingredient shortages
Blackpink member Lisa inadvertently showed off a cup of Heytea's Triple Thick Matcha on social media, quickly sparking global fan attention. Multiple Heytea overseas official accounts swiftly claimed it and seized the moment to launch a "Lisa Custom Edition," then further rolled out a buy-one-get-one-free matcha series promotion at stores worldwide. However, on the day of the promotion, consumers in many parts of China found that the matcha drinks were sold out early, and some even received incorrectly made beverages. Stores explained that ingredients were consumed too quickly and prep took time, but some fans were not buying it, arguing that if the brand wanted to ride a celebrity's hype, it should have prepared adequately in advance.
